Riding the Desert Waves: Palm Springs Welcomes the Palm Springs Surf Club

Surfers, rejoice! The arid landscape of Southern California is now home to the Palm Springs Surf Club (PSSC), an oasis of waves, entertainment, and culinary delights. Nestled at 1500 S Gene Autry Trail and sprawling across 21 acres, this surf destination is set to make waves, quite literally, as it opens its doors on January 1, 2024.

The Wave of Innovation

The brainchild of Cheyne Magnusson and surf icon Kalani Robb, in collaboration with James Dunlop, the PSSC is not just another wave pool; it’s a next-generation wave prototype. In 2019, the test pool was brought to life, catching the attention of investor and tech executive Vinny Smith. With the expertise of hotel developers Tim and Colin O’Byrne, the dream of creating a desert surf experience became a reality.

Vinny Smith, appreciating the dedication of the team, said, “Opening The Palm Springs Surf Club marks the realization of a dream that was once unimaginable – catching waves in the desert.” Despite the challenges, including navigating the complexities of construction during the COVID years, the result is a testament to passion and perseverance.

Surfing for Everyone

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a beginner, the PSSC has something for every wave enthusiast. While reservations are open for Intermediate and Advanced Surfers starting January 1, 2024, beginners can look forward to the “Beginner Waikiki” wave program in Spring 2024. The Waikiki wave is designed for those taking their first steps on a board, offering a gentle introduction to the thrill of surfing.

Beyond the Waves

The PSSC is more than just a surf destination; it’s a comprehensive entertainment complex. Boasting multiple dining options, including the upscale Amala, the poolside oasis Drifters, and the craft-cocktail haven Island Bar, the culinary experience is as diverse as the wave options.

Tim O’Byrne, developer of The Palm Springs Surf Club, expresses his enthusiasm, “Whether you’re an avid surfer, a beginner, or someone who simply loves to watch this spectacular sport, The Palm Springs Surf Club has something for everyone.”

Entertainment Beyond Surfing

Beyond the surf, the PSSC offers a range of attractions. The facility is ADA-accessible and features a lazy river, waterslides (opening later in 2024), cabana rentals, and a retail store stocked with wetsuits, clothing, and accessories. Surf sessions start at $100 for beginners, $150 for intermediates, and $200 for advanced surfers.

Accessible Winter Club Fun

Winter club entry starts at just $20, offering a gateway to the mesmerizing world of surfing even for those who prefer to stay dry. Reservations can be made on the Palm Springs Surf Club website.

In the heart of Palm Springs, California, the Palm Springs Surf Club stands as a testament to innovation, resilience, and a shared passion for the surf culture. Whether you’re seeking the thrill of the waves, indulging in gourmet dining, or exploring dynamic event spaces, the PSSC invites you to discover a destination like no other.
