Comedy in the Desert: Broadway Royalty Takes the Stage at Palm Springs’ Plaza Theatre

Broadway brilliance is about to light up the desert sky. This spring, the historic Plaza Theatre in downtown Palm Springs will launch rePLAY, a brand-new script-in-hand series pairing world-class talent with timeless comedy — all to benefit the ongoing restoration of the beloved landmark.

Under the artistic direction of Tony Award winner David Zippel, rePLAY will bring together a who’s who of stage and screen for three weekends of laughter and wit. The all-star lineup includes Jason Alexander, Christine Ebersole, Michael Urie, Richard Kind, Lucie Arnaz, Stephanie J. Block, Charles Busch, Lillias White, and Priscilla Lopez — names that practically guarantee standing ovations before the first line is read.

A Star-Studded Season

The series opens February 6–7, 2026, with a modern spin on Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest (in New York), adapted and directed by Zippel himself. Expect Wilde’s razor-sharp humor with a metropolitan twist, brought to life by Ebersole, Urie, White, Lopez, and an ensemble that includes Judy Kaye, Ryan Spahn, Isabella Coben, and Jess Salgueiro.

Next up, on March 13–14, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife by Charles Busch takes the stage under the direction of Philip Wm. McKinley. Starring Stephanie J. Block, Sebastian Arcelus, Charles Busch, Alix Korey, and Chris Carranza, the play offers an irreverent, urbane take on middle-aged malaise and reinvention.

The grand finale arrives May 1–2 with Larry Gelbart’s Better Late, directed by the incomparable Susan Stroman. Jason Alexander leads the cast alongside Lucie Arnaz, Dan Bucatinsky, and Richard Kind, promising equal measures of heart and hilarity.

Restoring a Desert Icon

More than a star vehicle, rePLAY represents the latest chapter in the Plaza Theatre’s revival. Built in 1936, the venue has hosted everyone from Frank Sinatra to Lily Tomlin, and today, efforts to restore its Art Deco splendor are in full swing.

“With extraordinary writing from Wilde, Busch, and Gelbart, paired with a lineup of world-class talent, this series celebrates the art of comedy in its purest form,” says Zippel.

Adds John Bolton, Senior Vice President of Oak View Group and General Manager of the Plaza Theatre: “What City Center’s Encores! does for musicals, rePLAY does for beloved plays.”

Get Your Tickets

Season subscriptions for rePLAY are available now, priced from $135 to $375, with single tickets to be released later this fall. All proceeds support the Plaza Theatre’s restoration and future programming — ensuring that this historic gem continues to shine at the heart of downtown Palm Springs.

For those who crave laughter, legacy, and a little bit of Broadway magic under the desert stars, rePLAY is one curtain call you won’t want to miss.
