Modernism Music: Marissa Mulder’s Tribute to Jimmy Van Heusen

Award-winning singer Marissa Mulder takes center stage during Modernism Week to pay homage to the legendary four-time Oscar-winning songwriter, Jimmy Van Heusen. In a captivating musical journey, Mulder delves into the timeless melodies that defined an era, celebrating the man who was not only Frank Sinatra’s closest companion but also a musical genius.

Her performance will be at the Annenberg Theatre February 20th at 7pm.

Van Heusen’s journey began in the quaint city of Syracuse, NY, where he discovered his passion for songwriting at a tender age. Even at eleven years old, he composed some of his biggest hits like “Imagination,” showcasing a talent that would eventually lead him to write over 1,000 songs during his illustrious career.

Beyond his musical prowess, Van Heusen lived a life as glamorous as the Hollywood stars he collaborated with. A pilot of his own airplanes, he soared through the skies, creating a legacy that extended far beyond his musical achievements. His escapades in Hollywood and Palm Springs added an element of mischief to his already colorful persona.

Marissa Mulder, hailed as one of the cabaret world’s biggest breakout successes by TimeOut New York, lends her extraordinary voice to breathe new life into Van Heusen’s timeless compositions. From the classics like “Come Fly with Me” and “All The Way” to hidden gems like “Sunday, Monday or Always,” Mulder infuses each note with her unique artistry.

Van Heusen’s songs, infectious and haunting, seem to transcend time, resonating as if they were penned just this morning. Mulder, with her unmatched talent, skillfully puts her stamp on these prolific tunes, creating an unforgettable experience for the audience.

A seasoned performer, Mulder has graced renowned venues such as the Café Carlyle, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Feinstein’s/54 Below, Birdland, and Joe’s Pub. Her accolades include the Julie Wilson and Noel Coward Awards, along with three MAC (Manhattan Association Of Cabarets and Clubs) awards for Major Artist and Recording Of The Year.

Having recently made her debut at The Pheasantry in London and honored to appear on NPR’s “Piano Jazz” program, Mulder continues to captivate audiences with her unparalleled talent. Her show “Tom…in His Words, the Songs of Tom Waits,” lauded as “far and away the season’s best cabaret show” by The New York Times, showcases the depth and versatility of her art.

As a recording artist, Mulder’s latest album “Two Tickets Left” earned her the 2019 MAC award for album of the year, available alongside her other albums on iTunes and Spotify.
