David Hockney’s Masterful Prints Take Center Stage in Palm Springs

The Palm Springs Art Museum presents David Hockney: Perspective Should Be Reversed, an extraordinary exhibition features nearly 200 of the artist’s works in a variety of media, including prints, collages, photographs, showcasing six decades of the iconic artist’s inventive genius. The exhibition highlights Hockney’s lifelong experiments with non-traditional perspectives for depicting the world and foregrounds his early interest in expressing his identity as a gay man.

Running through March 31, 2025, this show is hailed as one of the museum’s best-curated exhibitions to date. Visitors can experience Hockney’s unparalleled mastery of printmaking, from etchings and lithographs to digital innovations, each piece redefining the boundaries of the medium.

Highlights include the tender etching Two Boys Aged 23 or 24 (1966), vibrant lithographs from the 1980s, and mural-scale scrolls that immerse viewers in Hockney’s unique perspective. Selected by museum director Adam Lerner, the exhibition emphasizes Hockney’s exploration of sexuality and groundbreaking techniques, inviting audiences to see everyday subjects—swimming pools, courtyards, and landscapes—with new eyes.

The exhibition, drawn from the collection of Jordan D. Schnitzer and his family foundation, reflects Hockney’s brilliance and Schnitzer’s commitment to sharing art with communities nationwide.
