Palm Springs is about to witness a vibrant celestial transformation as artist Lynda Keeler unveils her latest exhibition, Between the Sun and the Moon, at JANSSEN Artspace’s newly opened gallery, ARTBOX. Inspired by the winter desert skies, Keeler’s latest collection of oil paintings captures the stunning interplay of light and color across the Coachella Valley. The exhibition opens on Thursday, February 13th, and runs through March 16th, with an opening reception hosted by celebrated designer Christopher Kennedy on February 13th from 5-7 p.m. at 255 East Tahquitz Canyon Way in Palm Springs.
Steven Janssen said “I am thrilled and honored to have Lynda Keeler’s solo exhibit to be one of the first to grace the walls of the new Artbox”
Keeler’s artistic journey is deeply intertwined with her surroundings. “My paintings, murals, and sculptures are inspired by daily walks through California neighborhoods,” she explains. “The vivid colors of flowers in front gardens, a glimpse of a swimming pool through a side gate, the massive boulders of Joshua Tree, and the curves of a cul-de-sac all find their way into my Road Maps and Color Maps series.”
Her work reflects a keen awareness of the dialogue between natural and built environments. “I’m deeply influenced by contemporary and classic architecture and design,” she says, emphasizing the way landscapes evolve, often balancing harmony and conflict. Symbols such as circles, arrows, and even hands and feet make appearances throughout her pieces, hinting at the passage of time and the layers of history embedded in place.
Keeler is not only a prolific artist but also a champion of the local arts community. In 2021, she co-founded Desert Open Studios, an initiative that began with 60 artists across the Coachella Valley opening their studios to the public. By March 2022, participation had doubled to 120 artists, culminating in a group exhibition at the Coachella Valley Arts Center in Indio.
Her work has been showcased in solo and group exhibitions across California, including San Diego, Los Angeles, Joshua Tree, and Palm Springs. Additionally, Keeler has curated group exhibitions for Intersect Art Fair and independent galleries, further solidifying her influence in the contemporary art scene.
A San Francisco native now based between Los Angeles and Palm Springs, Keeler has honed her craft through studies at UCLA, Anderson Ranch, Otis School of Art, Idyllwild Art Center, and under the guidance of esteemed artists such as Laddie John Dill, Ann Bridges, and Marie Thiebault.
With Between the Sun and the Moon, Keeler once again invites viewers into her world of vivid hues and abstract landscapes, where the desert’s changing light finds new life on canvas. Don’t miss this chance to experience her radiant vision—join the opening reception at ARTBOX on February 13th and immerse yourself in a world where art and the desert sky collide in breathtaking harmony.
