Making Waves in the Desert: Palm Desert Breaks Ground on DSRT Surf Resort

The sun shone brightly on a momentous occasion for Palm Desert as construction officially kicked off for the highly anticipated DSRT Surf resort at the Desert Willow Golf Resort. City Council members, project developers, and the media gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony last week celebrating a significant milestone for the city.

Originally approved by the council in 2019, the ambitious DSRT Surf project spans 18 acres and represents a monumental $100 million investment in Palm Desert, according to Eric Ceja, Director of Economic Development for the city. Although the original plans were revised in February 2021, the first phase is on track for completion by spring or summer 2026.

The centerpiece of the resort will be a stunning 5.5-acre surf lagoon, complemented by a beach area, restaurants, and bars. Additional features include a four-story, 92-room hotel, 83 residential units—comprising villas and stacked flats—ample parking, a spa, event spaces, a surf academy, a pump track for skating, and pickleball courts, among other amenities.

In an effort to maintain the area’s natural beauty and sustainability, the City of Palm Desert has identified turf areas for removal at Desert Willow’s golf courses. This initiative aims to balance water use by ensuring that the reduction in golf course water consumption matches or exceeds the amount required for the surf pool.

The DSRT Surf resort promises to be a vibrant, multifaceted destination, enhancing Palm Desert’s appeal as a premier locale for both relaxation and adventure.
